Embrace the relaxed state
Mindfulness can come in a range of forms, especially before bed.
Opt for reading a book, having a glass of water and coming away from social media an hour before you sleep.
This allows your mind to switch to calming thoughts, from focusing on relaxation and sleep through to winding down from the day.
Focus on your breathing
This mindfulness tip comes in the form of breathing.
Before you sleep, try out these exercises to encourage your body to relax.
Start with deep breaths: breathe in for three seconds, hold for two seconds and then breathe out for five; continue this until you eventually begin to relax and drift to sleep.
As you’re drifting off to sleep, practice some mindfulness through the use of your imagination.
Focusing on a warm sun really works to encourage sleep, it’s also useful to focus on each one of your limbs before relaxing them for the night.
Imagine your are switching off your legs, turning off your arms and finally switching your brain onto snooze, it can be very therapeutic to fall asleep in this manner.
Embrace the background music
You don’t have to just practice mindfulness in the moments before you fall to sleep – it can also be practiced during the day when you would like a few moments to relax your mind and de-stress- this is where music can come in handy.
Opting for a soothing melody in the background as you lie with your eyes closed for around 20 twenty minutes can allow you to clear your head and wakeup feeling soothed. Opt for sounds such as ocean waves or gentle piano to calm your stresses.
